Summary

As a Supervisory Architect, you will be responsible for the oversight of strategic programming, portfolio and project delivery of the capital improvement design and construction program; leading the Workplace & Special Projects Branch in the Design & Construction Division and may serve as the Regional Workplace Executive.

Location of position: Public Buildings Service, San Francisco, CA

Duties

Help

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Exercises control over all assigned design and construction projects, including schedules, aesthetic, technical, and financial decisions necessary for successful accomplishment. Provides project and resource information to the Region 9  Regional Commissioner and any automated information required for program accomplishment.
  • Directs, through project managers the administration and supervision of construction contracts.
  • On in-house design projects, directs the development of detailed scope and budget and coordinates all aspects with GSA offices and the client agencies.
  • Assists agencies with space layout and housing plans for projects within the branch.
  • Has supervisory responsibility over a branch, comprised of mostly architects, interior designers and engineers. Establishes critical elements and performance standards. Advises, counsels and instructs staff on professional and administrative matters. Selects  candidates for all positions within the branch. Recommends personnel actions such as promotion or reassignment. Hears and resolves employee complaints or grievances. Deals with union representatives on matters covered by the collective bargaining agreement. Manages employee development and performance.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $152,105.00 per year.   

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHITECTS: A Degree in architecture or related field; OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. For specifics on qualifying education, training, and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Architect Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  

In addition to the Basic Requirements, all candidates must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as professional architecture experience in the design of construction or alteration projects involving large and complex buildings or major building systems as well as coordinating the activities of multidisciplinary teams on such project. Experience must include planning, prioritizing, and evaluating work to be accomplished by subordinates; and providing advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We will use a method called Category Rating to assess your application.  Here’s how it will work:

You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of project management, architecture/engineering, and construction concepts, principles, and practices. 
  • Knowledge of contract administration necessary to oversee and interact with various contractors.
  • Knowledge of budget processes and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to direct the activities of subordinates engaged in a wide range of projects, providing input on staffing, performance issues and administrative supervision work.

Your answers to the questions will be used to place you in one of the following categories and standard score ranges:

  • Best Qualified = Candidates scoring between 95 - 100
  • Well Qualified = Candidates scoring between 85 - 94 (Well Qualified for CTAP/ICTAP)
  • Qualified = Candidates scoring between 70 - 84

We will verify your answers to the questions in your resume.  If your resume doesn’t support your answers, we may lower your score, which could place you in a lower category.

Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
