Duties

Help
  • You will advise managers and senior leaders on environmental impact issues.
  • You will prepare plans for the management and protection of natural resources (e.g., sensitive plants and wildlife and their habitats).
  • You will implement natural resources management principles in various ecosystem types (e.g., botanical, wetlands, forest) to ensure long-term maintenance of environmental quality, enhancement of native species, and biotic diversity.
  • You will brief others on natural resources environmental compliance or program implementation.
  • You will serve as organization's representative at conferences to present information on biological science or environmental programs.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Advising management on environmental impact issues to ensure organizational compliance with established natural resources legislation and regulations; 2) Assessing the impacts of land use change, proposed military training, and training support projects on the natural environment; 3) Developing and reviewing environmental documentation and planning submittals to ensure organizational compliance with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) directives; 4) Representing an organization at meetings concerning natural resource management; and 5) Leading a team in planning, coordinating, and reviewing efforts involved in the environmental planning and documentation process.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

or

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional information

Term appointments may be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions.
