Duties

Help
  • You will adjudicate or approve affirmative medical care recovery claims as required and assign and coordinate distribution of workload to subordinate staff; providing technical direction and planning staff work to meet mission requirements.
  • You’ll plan work schedules and review/approve leave requests, communicate performance expectations, evaluate employees’ performance, promptly address employee performance and conduct issues, and provide necessary training and mentoring.
  • You will have the authority to deny or grant waiver/compromise requests up to any authority granted by the Division Director, and make sound recommendations to the Managing Attorney on those requests.
  • You will draft and sign non-routine letters containing legal analysis of particular cases.
  • You will assess and revise policies and procedures as needed to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
  • You will administer and oversee multiple civilian employee personnel (CIVPERS) programs within the MCRU and meet various reporting requirements.
  • You will identify requirements and initiate requests for additional resources including personnel, overtime, equipment, supplies and spaces to ensure success in meeting goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing medical care recovery claims work incorporating all of the following duties: (1) Examining, negotiating, and settling affirmative medical care recovery claims ; (2) Analyzing and evaluating investigations for factual sufficiency and applying the relevant information to facilitate the adjudication of affirmative medical care recovery claims and the strategic planning, execution, management, and oversight for business-related operations; (3) Applying principles, methods, tools for developing, to coordinate, monitor, evaluate, and manage projects and resources; (4) Communicating both orally and in writing to a variety of sources to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory rules as related to the adjudication of affirmative medical care recovery claims; and (5) Performing administrative functions at the supervisory level such as: planning work schedules, distributing workload, instituting compliance measures, evaluating performance, and mentoring/training personnel.

Specialized experience must demonstrate all of the above qualifications listed at the GS-09 level (or equivalent), and in addition, candidate must have experience developing and implementing efficiencies to balance workload, and providing technical direction and oversight regarding processing and adjudicating claims.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.M., if related
