Duties

As a Cook SupervisorWS-7404-8, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Serves as the supervisor in charge of the college's food service program.
  • Responsible for planning and carrying out food service program assignments, resolving most conflicts which arise and coordinating the work of others.
  • Adheres to sanitary standards in handling food.
  • Cover, label and date food items according to established policies and procedures.
  • Clean assigned work areas; walls, ceilings, floors, worktables, walk-in refrigerators, and storage rooms.
  • Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular, special, and modified diets.
  • Prepare different types of food using varies methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources.
  • Assemble and disassemble kitchen equipment for cleaning.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what the applicant can do against what the work calls for. The knowledge, skills, and abilities of applicants are compared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. If applicants have the ability to do the work, they are considered eligible for the job. Applicants who appear to meet the prescribed Screen-out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration.
