Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As an Administrative Officer, you will:

  • Study administrative management reports and records and discuss issues with employees to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Research and report on a variety of special projects and program initiatives that serve as the basis for decisions that have operational impact.
  • Maintain internal controls procedures over financial management activities that ensure the integrity of budget and accounting activity for the program.
  • Evaluate resource needs and current and projected changes and develops recommendations for efficient/effective use of staff and for personnel management adjustments consistent with program changes.
  • Provide, or ensure the provision of, a variety of support services such as property and supply management, space management, records and forms management, printing and duplicating services and mail management.
  • Oversee or conduct purchasing activity within the program.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-11 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Interpreting and advising on policies and procedures relating to office and/or field operations; AND
  • Completing reports for managers relating to internal administrative operations; AND
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
OR
  • EDUCATION: You may substitute a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related.
OR
  • COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-09 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Reviewing internal policies and procedures relating to office and/or field operations, and making recommendations for process improvements; AND
  • Preparing administrative documents and reports; AND
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
OR
  • EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
  • COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
