Help

  • Through on the job training and/or formal training, (i.e., correspondence courses or classroom training) under the oversight of a journey level operator, operates small craft, single and double propeller boats, booster pumps, and anchor barges.
  • Plots courses or locates precise positions in the open water and skillfully anticipates the effect of wind and current change (set and drift) on the behavior and course of the boat.
  • Launches and recovers small boats and dredges. Performs routine operator-level preventative maintenance required to decks, hull, gasoline and diesel engines, winches, compressors, generators, hydraulic pumps, reduction gears, and electronic equipment of tugboat, barges, and other equipment.
  • Operates booster pumps associated with the transport of dredged material to the disposal site.
  • Checks and continually monitors production gauges and observes, sound and feel of dredge whether machinery, pump, cutter, etc., are functioning properly, and if malfunctions are noted, stops dredge to locate and correct issue. Responsible for operator level preventive maintenance of dredge including monitoring/inspecting/adding lubricants and coolants.
  • Drives trucks capable of carrying or towing loads (such as a pickup truck with trailer), with gross vehicle weight of less than 24,000 pounds.
  • Loads and unloads vehicle, assuring hauling capacity is not exceeded; assures that cargo is protected from weather and secured to prevent falling or tipping; completes trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records; performs prescribed operator-level vehicle preventive maintenance.
  • Performs manual laboring duties in support of dredging, rigging and O&M efforts. Loads and Unloads supplies and equipment, washes vehicles, boats and dredges. Inventories equipment, and performs other duties as assigned.

A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. Desired candidates should have heavy equipment operation experience and ability to operate single propeller outboard motor/watercraft

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Education

This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

Selected applicants will start off at the Worker I level. The promotion potential is to Worker III. Promotion is not automatic nor guaranteed.
