Duties

Help
  • Responsible for managing DLA Installation safety programs. Manages standard operating procedures for safety programs such as “lock-out, tag-out”, fall protection, electrical safety, extreme temperatures (heat stress plan) --
  • -- respiratory protection, confined spaces, deliberate risk assessments, job hazard analysis, etc.
  • Conducts safety and occupational health inspections, mishap and near-miss investigations.
  • Identify uncontrolled hazards, verify hazard corrections, monitor the effectiveness of existing hazard controls, and assure compliance with existing OSHA regulations.
  • Implements safety and occupational health programs, including program management, mishap trend analysis and reporting.
  • Direct and perform activities involved in the compilation, consolidation, analysis, maintenance, presentation, and dissemination of safety data.
  • Assure the quality, effectiveness of the numerous safety and health programs, demonstrate compliance, measure performance, identify trends and alert both government and private personnel to hazards and established controls.
  • Coordinates with supervisors and managers to determine needs for safety training and develops and/or assists in the development of training courses needed.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Safety and Occupational Health Manager, your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
  • Analyzing and evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
  • Assisting with training sessions to educate personnel on Safety and Occupational Health matters.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
