Duties

Help
  • Applies knowledge of explosive safety, explosive manufacturing, transportation of explosives and highly hazardous materials to identify hazards and minimize risk.
  • Knowledge and experience in emergency operations and response.
  • Participates in policymaking involving explosive safety risk management when regulatory guidance is incomplete.
  • Coordinates with other Administrative Contracting Officer (ACO) elements and operating contractors to develop risk reduction strategies.
  • Monitors contractor operations, including developing and maintaining a Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan (QASP).
  • Participates in accident investigations to determine root cause(s) and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Establishes and execute the Safety and Occupational Health Program to provide a comprehensive program for all assigned personnel.
  • Applies knowledge of process safety management techniques to identify hazards and minimize risk.
  • Evaluates highly hazardous industrial operations for hazards and risks and ensuring appropriate safety measure in place.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: I have one year of specialized experience which includes 1. Advising on explosive safety and occupational health policies. 2. Assisting in accident investigations. 3. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, or procedures. And 4. Recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as an Safety and Occupational Health Specialist located at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant which is a subordinate installation of JMC.
