Help

The Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor is responsible for routine and emergency patient transportation operations, and the health care system's fleet management mission, standard procedures, and overall priorities.

  • Supervises, and reports on vehicle performance, maintenance, fuels, utilization, and location of assignment for a fleet exceeding 200 vehicles.
  • Plans development of dual use vehicles in support of Emergency Management initiatives with less than 24 hour notice
  • Determines if repairs can be performed in-house by VA personnel or sent out to competent local sources
  • Serves as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) on vehicle repairs.
  • Must obtain COR I certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Maintains vehicle maintenance records, gas consumption, and vehicle mileage.
  • Assures all VA vehicles and equipment are performing efficiently and that safety items such as tires, brakes, lights, etc., are in proper working order; instructs drivers to comply with all safety precautions in vehicle/equipment operation
  • Orders and stocks repair parts, supplies, materials and equipment and participates in preliminary planning of budgets for various control points (i.e., Thruway costs, fuel usage, repairs, grounds expenses, etc.);
  • Operates and manages a personal computer system, word processing programs, spreadsheets, electronic mail and other PC applications
  • Performs a variety of supervisory duties to include selection of new employees; plans, schedules, and projects; performance evaluation; provides advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters; hears and resolves minor complaints and grievances; etc.; and,
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

This position requires a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brake and passenger endorsement is required for this position. Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The position requires feet, leg, eye and hand coordination in braking, steering, shifting, and accelerating. Muscular effort and strength are required to load and unload passenger, equipment, and materials, and to handle operating a 26,000 + GWV. This position requires physical effort related to movements such as climbing, crawling, bending, and physical exertion related to loading and unloading stretcher, patient, wheelchairs, and other equipment. This position may cause strain related to lack of movement when seated in the driving position for long trips. The Motor Vehicle Operator is exposed to dirt, fumes, grease, exhaust, traffic noise, road hazards, and heavy machinery. This position must operate and load vehicles in all types of weather conditions, exposing the employee to the danger of serious accidents.

For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
