This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serve as the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist for an Army brigade-sized unit under the Holistic Health and Fitness Director.

Help
  • Utilize accurate and relevant data and information to identify nutrition-related concerns; identify and implement appropriate, purposefully planned interventions designed to influence behavior change.
  • Develop comprehensive performance nutrition programs that improve foundational health and optimize environmental and task-specific performance, which require different nutrition strategies to facilitate category-specific performance outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain credibility with Command teams by effectively communicating and advising on nutrition-related issues, services, and programs, focusing on Command priorities.
  • Train and mentor various professionals to standardize nutrition messages in line with current research and industry best practices.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Red Cross. Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • The incumbent may be required to work later in the day and/or on weekends, as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • The incumbent may be required to work overtime and/or other than normal duty hours for data collection, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The incumbent may be assigned a government cell phone and be required to be in an On-Call status after hours and on weekends.
  • Employees must have a valid registration, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN), state license, and four-year Nutrition degree, with preferred Master's or Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics.
  • The work necessitates physical exertion, including lifting heavy items, performing exercises for physical performance and rehabilitation, and participating in the Army Combat Fitness Test.

MILITARY SEPARATED (NON-RETIREE): Military members may be appointed while on terminal leave, before the effective date of their military separation. Applications will only be accepted from members of the Armed Forces that indicate they are immediately appoint-able within 120 days.

If you are currently stationed in the overseas area, all of your overseas time will be credited toward your current overseas tour end date. Your overseas time served will not reset upon accepting this assignment.

If you have returned from OCONUS within the past 2 years or less, your time previously served in the OCONUS area will be credited to your 5 year overseas rotation upon accepting this assignment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dietitian (Holistic Health and Fitness):

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists.

OR

Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which 1) assessing nutrition related concerns of individuals or groups, 2) providing nutritional counseling or interventions, educating on performance nutrition, AND 3) developing and monitoring an organization's nutrition program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Medical and dental care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical and dental facilities will vary by location.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
  • For positions in a foreign country, that country's laws or international agreements may have a direct impact on the ability of an employee's same sex domestic partner or spouse to accompany the employee and receive certain benefits.
