Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:

  • Review media coverage, news releases, talking points, agency issuances, fact sheets, and other material to recommend and prepare visual and multimedia content for social media to promote OCC functions, policies, programs, and activities as directed for various external audiences. Maintain awareness of media and social media coverage of the agency, media coverage of the banking industry, and agency policy and management initiatives, and identifies opportunities to develop and prepare social media content to publicize the agency's mission initiatives and activities to the public, the press, and specialized audiences.
  • Establish and maintain standards and work processes to ensure that social media programs and delivery strategies are utilized effectively and efficiently. Provide counsel and recommendations to OCC staff regarding the strategic coordination, development and implementation of communication plans and projects to support social media campaigns to promote OCC's mission and activities. Represent the OCC and media relations team's social media function in meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Work with other public affairs and OCC staff to coordinate, draft and post accurate and appropriate agency messages and other social media content in a timely manner. Design content and provide photography resources to support messaging for use on social media.
  • Coordinate, develop, create and post messages, visual and multimedia content in support of for social media campaigns and day-to-day social media content. Plan, coordinate, and participate in meetings and events with OCC officials to create, develop and execute successful communication strategies using Facebook, YouTube, X, Linkedln and other social media tools. Advise senior public affairs staff on developing plans, policies, and procedures for social media program and activities, and identifies issues or concerns.
  • Develop and execute tactics to take advantage of social media and other emerging opportunities, including analyzing, interpreting, and monitoring social media content to ensure message reach and effectiveness. Review news releases, talking points, public service announcements, fact sheets, and other material for use and distribution via social media platforms. Prepare and coordinate the posting and distribution of messages, visual and multimedia content for use on various social media channels.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of strategic digital media strategies to promote agency messages and overall communication plans. Research, prepare, and present analysis of social media coverage and social media strategies by ensuring effectiveness and impact. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and agency officials. Manage agency presence in social networking sites including Facebook, X, and other similar community sites. Work with and is privy to information of a confidential, pre-decisional nature. Assignment may be made with little lead time while tied to deadlines.

This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Travel occasionally to attend conferences and/or training.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.

  • Successfully complete a background investigation that includes criminal history, financial history (including a credit check) and other information.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV or GS-11 level in the federal service.

Examples of Specialized Experience for this position include:

  • Providing recommendations to management on content to promote on social media, and
  • Preparing and implementing communication plans for social media, and
  • Assisting with the creation of multimedia content, graphics, videos, or other products for social media platforms (such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn etc.), and
  • Researching and analyzing online content and social media analytics to determine message reach and effectiveness.

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

  • Salary range includes 25.04% geographical pay.
