Help
  • Working under close supervision you will:
  • Perform small boat hydrographic surveys to support navigation, dredging, and coastal operations or to assess the condition of the channel or other waterway.
  • Set up GNSS RTK base station on previously established control point and broadcasts position corrections in area of survey to be performed.
  • Perform topographic and hydrographic surveys and traverse and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveys to determine horizontal position.
  • Perform topographic and hydrographic surveys in support of the Coastal Storm Risk Management Program and perform topographic surveys of upland dredge material placement sites, roads, parking areas, and a variety of other sites.
  • Review and edit each record which is the location and/or elevation as required for the survey, is responsible for logging, uploading, and documenting all collected data, and collect additional supplemental data as requested.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid state issued driver's license within 3 months of employment date.
  • Requires possession of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) safety certification within 12 months of employment date.
  • Position requires taking and passing a pre-employment physical and then biannually thereafter.
  • Must be able to able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain Corp of Engineer Small Craft Operator license within 12 months of employment date.
  • Position may require travel up to 75% of the time.
  • May be required to serve a one year probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing topographic and/or hydrographic surveys, and/or documenting collected survey date to report to other divisions/organizations, and/or use of various types of surveying equipment to successfully complete projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
