Duties

Help
  • Attend patients during medical evacuation, ground and helicopter.
  • Prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
  • Based on this preliminary assessment, you will independently make choices as to how best to provide stabilizing medical interventions prescribed in protocols and, if necessary, make modifications to these protocols within prescribed limits.
  • Independently gather as much information as possible about the victim, the cause, and effects of the illness/injury in a short time in order to quickly initiate medical treatment.

  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Secret clearance with childcare background checks required.
  • 25% or more temporary duty travel may be required.
  • This position requires wear of a uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Pre-employment and random thereafter drug testing required.
  • This position is mission essential. Incumbent may be required to report and/or remain on duty in the event of a national crisis, civil disaster, medical crisis or extreme weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Position is subject to mandatory overtime and recall to maintain adequate staffing of apparatus.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required if not already completed in accordance with 5 CFR criteria.
  • Must obtain and maintain a National Registry Paramedic certification (NREMT-P) within one year of being hired.
  • Must possess and maintain a nationally or Kentucky State of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) license.
  • Possess and maintain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.
  • Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes work that involves: 1) responding on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening; 2) making an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selecting from a variety of prescribed protocols the one; 3) recognizing and determining the causes and medical implication of various medical emergencies and illnesses.

Education
