Help
  • You will be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health programs that are interrelated with other IHD technical and administrative programs.
  • You will monitor and evaluate the overall safety of hazardous chemicals and materials safety, occupational safety, industrial trades environmental, and workplace situations.
  • You will ensure program effectiveness in eliminating or controlling hazards to station site and federal property.
  • You will conduct surveys, periodic inspections and special studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, ordnance explosives production facilities to determine adherence to Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), and Navy regulations.
  • You will represent the command at Health and Safety seminars and conferences as an authority in OSH safety and health hazards control.
  • You will evaluate workplaces to determine environmental health risks, exposure levels and make technical recommendations of findings.
  • You will evaluate personal protective equipment to determine compliance with regulations.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is mainly performed in the industrial, chemicals, explosives and contractor workplaces for survey and analysis of operations.
  • Work requires operation of motor vehicles, considerable walking, standing, some climbing and carrying equipment and instruments.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent grade level) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: analyzing and conducting Occupational Safety and Health inspections or surveys to ensure workplace safety and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and other official directives.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Successful completion of three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education.
  • Successful completion of LL.M, if related.
  • Havea combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

This announcement uses the Direct Hire STRL Mission Support authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

This position is located in the Command Department (00), Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office (00SA) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-11 and GS-12 grade levels.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
