Duties

Help
  • You will provide thorough assessment, non-medical counseling, and consultation services to clients who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or disorders.
  • You will interview individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure in relation to the development of symptomatic behavior patterns and interpersonal problems.
  • You will independently devise individualized service plans (e.g., individual counseling, family counseling, referral for in client services, etc.).
  • You will provide continuing support and treatment to clients and families.
  • You will compile statistical data of services provided for review and analysis by a supervisor.
  • You will conduct seminars and training programs.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position. I am willing and able to submit to a SCHR check.
  • Must meet degree and licensure requirements for privileging at the independent practitioner level, tier II or tier III in accordance with SECNAVINST 1754.8.
  • Must meet credentialing and privileging requirements in accordance with SECNAVINST 1754.8 and MCO 5300.17A.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting screenings and assessments, and providing therapeutic counseling, consultation services and education related to substance abuse disorders.

Education


Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

GS-0185-11

Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.

GS-0180-11
Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below:

Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required.
OR

Must have completed 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or successfully completed all the requirements for a master's degree directly to counseling psychology in an accredited educational institution.

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience

Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree may be substituted for specialized experience.
