Duties

Help
  • Serve in and enrich all facets of Department of Systems Engineering (DSE) mission including teaching, scholarship, service, faculty development, and cadet development.
  • Work under the direction of faculty within DSE.
  • Instruct undergraduate cadets in DSE courses such as Engineering Economy, Engineering Management, Systems Simulation, Fundamentals of Systems Engineering, Statistics for Engineers, Decision Analysis and Production Operations Management.
  • Manage, assess, improve, and develop courses that support DSE’s mission.
  • Plan, lead, resource and conduct research that results in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Advise and lead cadet research projects.
  • Advise and develop faculty in the areas of research, higher education, professional service and other activities related to the mission of the department.
  • Participate in professional development activities within the Department and at the Academy including the Department’s Faculty Development Workshop (FDW).
  • Participate in Department, Academy, professional society and outreach governance including but not limited to serving on and leading standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Develop cadets in voluntary curricular and academic extracurricular activities, the character, military, or physical development programs, or community activities contributing to cadet development.

Qualifications

This is a full-time academic tenure-track position with an initial term appointment in the excepted service to start on or about June 29, 2025, not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. Faculty who attains the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor may have the opportunity to non-competitively receive a permanent appointment in the excepted service. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Applicants will be evaluated on the following:
1) Academic accomplishment (Ph.D. is preferred) in Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Systems Design, Decision Science or another closely related field preferred).
2) Ability to attract and conduct funded research in areas relevant to the Department of Systems Engineering, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and professional conferences.
3) Demonstrated experience in contemporary Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Systems Design, Decision Science techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
4) Ability to develop faculty as researchers and scholars.
5) Ability to plan, develop, evaluate, and teach undergraduate courses and lead programs in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or Systems and Decision Sciences.
6) Ability to provide advice to Leadership and Program Directors on curricular, pedagogical, professional, and research matters, and show potential for participation in the governance of the United States Military Academy through service on departmental and Academy-wide committees.
7) Ability to lead in professional societies and communities associated with Department of Systems Engineering and the United States Military Academy.
