Help
  • Examine and secure freight for shipment or storage.
  • Determine work methods and materials for securing items to prevent shifting or damage.
  • Install blocking and bracing against non-rectangular, irregular, sloped or curved walls, floors, sides or overhead areas.
  • Fabricate, fit and install wooden bracing to secure odd-shaped boxes and crates of equipment and ammunition or other hazardous materials.
  • Build temporary trestles, false floors, decking, bulkheads and cribbing in odd-shaped cargo areas or around obstacles.

  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

  • This position requires an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AAE) Security Certification/Screening in accordance AR 190-11.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position will serve as a Blocker and Bracer securing and examining freight, plans and constructs custom containers, pack, preserve and crate items for shipment or storage, and brace and block items for shipment, and operate fork lifts to facilitate loading and unloading on facility located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Blocker and Bracer without more than normal supervision. Constructing and installing wooden blocks, wedges, gates, braces, and other staying devices to separate and secure crated and boxed items inside or upon box cars, flat cars, vans, trucks, or other conveyances which have level floors, straight sides, and no odd-shaped or curved overhead areas, framework, or obstacles protruding into the cargo area. Tie down, block and secure cargo. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.



PHYSICAL EFFORT
Average weight handled is approximately 45 pounds; however, occasionally will handle items weighing up to 65 pounds unassisted. Materials handling equipment, such as dollies, hand trucks, conveyors, high-lift trucks, etc., are available and used wherever practicable. IAW MCAAP Regulation 385-8 All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. Work pace may be rapid for long periods of time and heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Work situation may require constant sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, or climbing in strained or awkward positions.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Work site will usually be in railroad cars, trailer, or magazines, under conditions of poor ventilation and inadequate light and is frequently exposed to disagreeable heat, coldness, dampness, wind and rail. Frequently is exposed to noise and to possible cuts, abrasions, and splinters from power sawing, handling lumber, spiking, nailing, and other work. Is exposed to nose and lung irritation from dust and sawdust and possible injuries from falling objects, swinging crane loads, etc. May wear protective eyeglasses, a face shield, protective ear devices, gloves, hard hats, hard toe shoes, or other protective equipment. Will be subject to general explosion hazard for the majority of the time and may also be subject to TNT or Tetryl-Poison hazard, toxic fumes, and other conditions found in explosives handling.
