Duties

Help
  • Apply a variety of graphic arts techniques to produce signs, posters, and displays for inside and outside of buildings.
  • Safely setup and/or teardown carpentry tools in a shop or outdoor setting for construction purposes.
  • Determine proper cleaning method for work pieces or surfaces to include the abrasives to use for completion of work.
  • Utilize carpentry tools such as saws, drill press, surface planer, router, belt sander, and various hand tools for fabricating plywood signs and mounting supports.
  • Operate a vehicle with a Class B endorsement to tow the self-propelled striping machine.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sign Painter Helper ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common tasks of sign painter helper duties by operating one or more machines related to the work such as embossing or poster machines, varitype or other composing machines, engraving tools, paper cutters, projectors or cameras. I can read and apply directions that relates to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating material, solvents, and pre-coating agents. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, crawling, kneeling climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time. Uses hands, arms, and legs to climb vertical ladders to platforms. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Regularly handles materials and equipment that weigh 75 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.


Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dust, dirt, spray and fumes are usually present. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Sign making operations are performed indoors in adequately lighted and heated shop.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
