Duties

Help
  • Assists with database administration and database systems engineering and implementation.
  • Maintains liaison with a wide range of clients, hardware and software developers, and suppliers.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors lockup security measures to ensure integrity of the lockup process.
  • Assists with website development and content posting. Support interagency data and information dissemination.

Qualifications

You must demonstrate one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the four competencies above, your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements as listed below:

GS-12: Qualifying experience includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position specialized experience is experience 1) Assisting with database administration and database systems engineering and implementation; 2) Assisting other staff members in the proper use of technology; 3) Provides help desk support.

GS-13: Qualifying experience includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position specialized experience is experience1) Facilitating with the design of complex client-server applications interfaced to centralized databases; 2) Participating with configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of Cisco ASA firewall; 3) Carrying out the activities necessary to support agency information technology infrastructure by ensuring network and database integrity, availability and recoverability; 4) Assisting with website development.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no education substitution for specialized experience at either grade level.

This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week, based upon the duties of the position. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures and USDA policy using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
