Help
  • Serve as a working leader, establishing work speed and ensuring that rules, regulations, and safety practices are followed.
  • Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available to accomplish assigned work.

  • Inspect work in progress for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment physical.
  • This position has a requirement to lift to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required up to 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Target Systems Mechanic Leader (Engineering Equipment Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the Ability to Lead or Supervise common Target Systems Mechanic Leader (Engineering Equipment Operator) duties, such as inspecting, testing, servicing, adjusting, aligning, calibrating, installing, repairing, replacing, troubleshooting, field tests and/or shop tests targets, target devices and simulators. Using blueprints, wiring diagrams, manufacturer's manuals, etc., to troubleshoot problem. Operating heavy equipment to execute, backfill, grade, and level earth to rough specifications on such range projects as new target positions, fire breaks, snow removal, new firing trails and upgrade of ranges. Grading curves and shoulders of existing roads and trails. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below.   • Ability To Lead or Supervise
  • Physical Effort: Involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Working in awkward or cramped quarters and handling of objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking/jolting from operating over rough surface (farm tractor and dump truck).
  • Working Conditions: The duties involve working in extreme adverse weather conditions, (i.e., low/high temperature, snow/rain, windy and excessive dust). The work environment will be around excessive noise, (intermittent) solvents, grease/oil, sulfuric acid, uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts and open 480 volts. The work environment will require use of protective clothing or gear, such as safety shoes, ear protection, helmet and observance of appropriate safety precautions.
  • NOTE: The official duty station of this position is the assigned Remote Electronic Target Systems (RETS) Range which may be up to 30 miles, one way, from Range Control, Bldg. 2740.
