Summary

Incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant for the New York Harbor HCS, seated at the Manhattan, NY campus , in the Social Work service healthcare for homeless veterans ( HCHV) program, performing a variety of administrative and management support duties and functions which are essential to the work of the organization and necessary to assist in the effective delivery of clinical social work services.

Duties

Help

  • Responsible for a variety of clerical, and administrative duties ( such as typing emails, using TEAMS to contact social workers, logging metro cards or doing an inventory of donated items) related to the operations of Social Work Service, including the homeless programs.
  • Responsible for greeting, looking up, and referring walk-in and call-in veterans to the appropriate social work personnel.
  • Communicates any clinical issues from screening the veteran and checking the welfare of the veterans.
  • Provides information management and coordination about how to direct veterans to appropriate locations in the medical center or community to ensure the flow of communication.
  • Coordinates referrals for HCHV and maintains contact with referring clinicians regarding the status of referrals.
  • Responsible for filing, retrieval and dissemination of data relating to the HCHV program which are required for the VA's HOMES national database of homeless veterans.
  • Assist program staff in performing community outreach in support of the homeless services program, outreaches and assist eligible veterans to enroll for VA health care and provides an orientation to VAMC services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 8am-4:30p, Monday-Friday

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Develops and monitors the ongoing implementation of administrative systems and structures in support of clinical program operations, Calls patients to see if an available appointment time would work for them and putting them into the scheduling system, Responsible for greeting, looking up, and referring walk-in and call-in Patients to the appropriate social work personnel, Maintains and prepares hard copy and/or electronic files and records that are digitally based, Prepares information/statistical reports and accurately reflects clinical, administrative and program productivity and outcomes to include program specific data, Provides information management and coordination about how to direct patients to appropriate locations in the medical center or community to ensure the flow of communication, information, correspondence, and statistical data.

Preferred Experience: Experience with homelessness programs.


There is no educational substitution for the GS-6 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
