Duties

Help
  • Advise visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper use of recreations facilities.
  • Develop and conduct interpretive talks and guided tour programs.
  • Inspect facilities and check for compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Prepare displays for posting on project bulletin boards.
  • Conduct on-foot and motorized patrols of project land and water ways.
  • Assists with installation of fish attractors and other wildlife habitat enhancement techniques, such as establishment and maintenance of wildlife food plots.
  • Performs a wide range of duties comprised of manual tasks associated with natural resources management and support.
  • Meets with Governmental fish, wildlife and pollution abatement officials regarding problems or constructive programs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license.
  • Required to successfully complete a pre-employment Physical Examination. Must be able capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100lbs with the assistance of one other person.
  • May work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to boat/foot patrol, surveillance, inspections, boundary marking, special events, etc. May work alone performing duties.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
  • Required to obtain and maintain citation authority.
  • Utilizes computers and software including Corps-developed software.
  • Required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position. The NRM uniform shall be worn in accordance with EP 1130-2-550 Chapter 8.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment. Utilizes motor vehicle to travel to work sites sometimes in remote locations throughout the project.
  • Position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.

Who May Apply: US Citizens

Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. Seasonal employees are permanent employees who are placed in non-duty/non-pay status and recalled to duty in accordance with pre-established conditions of employment. Typical periods in pay status will last 6 or 10 months, depending on location.


In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.

  • Physical Requirements: Duties include climbing steep terrain, and working on steep and uneven ground. Lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with assistance. May be required to work in inclement weather to conduct boat/foot patrol, surveillance of project, various inspections (safety, mining, logging, gas well), boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). May be required to work alone to contact the public while enforcing project rules and regulations, using an all-terrain vehicle or four-wheel drive for off road use, and may perform dam gate operations for flood damage reduction.
