Help
  • Operates a flood control dam to maintain reservoir elevations in accordance with the project operations manual to maintain safe stream flows downstream which will accomplish the flood risk management mission.
  • Maintains structures, buildings, roads, or grounds utilizing various trade practices and materials for safety and aesthetic value.
  • Assists the head dam operator in the management of diverse programs including but not limited to asset management, real estate, environmental, construction management, and safety in support of project administration.
  • Conducts regular and periodic inspections of dam, dike, channel, weirs, and/or levee comprising the project noting discrepancies or need for maintenance or repair services.
  • Operates diesel and gasoline powered vehicles. Maintains combustion-powered vehicles and equipment including tractors with loaders, backhoes, mowers, sidehill mowers, engines, replacing, and/or repairing defective parts, and components.
  • Uses various tools, test equipment, and measuring devices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued Motor Vehicle Driver's license.
  • Requires travel 10% of the time
  • Must wear a Corps of Engineers uniform.

  • Required to obtain and maintain a USACE Motorboat Operator License.
  • Position requires participation in the Department of Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program to include passing a urinalysis drug testing prior to appointment and passing random urinalysis drug testing after appointment.
  • Seasonal employees are subject to periodic layoff and recall. The incumbent is required to sign a Seasonal Employment Agreement as a condition of employment.
  • Heavy lifting is required by this position; the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., however, when required to lift objects weighing in excess of 35 pounds, incumbent will obtain assistance of others or use mechanical handling equipment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-07 without more than normal supervision performing tasks such as 1) Routine and non-routine maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment, utility systems, buildings, and/or other appurtenant structures and properties; 2) Operating diesel and gasoline powered vehicles including tractors, backhoes, and mowers; 3) Performing maintenance on combustion powered vehicles, equipment and mechanical or hydraulic systems to include troubleshooting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, components, and systems; and 4) Utilizing a variety of tools and equipment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires constant arm and leg movement and reaching, bending and turning to operate hand and foot controls when driving tractor or motor vehicle. Exerts extra effort to maintain balance and position at controls of tractor and exerts extra effort to turn the larger and heavier vehicles and to operate the additional controls of heavier motor vehicles. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on scaffolds and ladders, which requires work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Exerts very heavy physical effort frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing heavy loads and operating heavy hand-held equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outdoors in all weather conditions, including periods of extreme heat and cold and inclement weather. Subject to injury from lifting and handling heavy materials and equipment, discomfort from noise and vibration of equipment, and hazards associated with operating vehicles and equipment, applying pesticides, and performing duties in the vicinity of flood control projects (dirt, fumes, cuts, bruises, falls, broken bones and drowning).

Education

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
