This position located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Jonathan M. Wainwright VA Medical Center and is assigned to the Operations Section of Facilities Management Service. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assisting in preventive maintenance and minor repair of tractors, maintenance vehicles, and equipment as well as performing operator maintenance and adjustments.
  • Summer season duties consist of lawn and grounds upkeep, while during the winter the duties involve snow removal, ice removal and street maintenance.
  • Performing general labor tasks such as shovel excavating, moving soils, sand, gravel, and other materials, moving furniture and equipment, and manual snow and ice removal.
  • Operating, maintaining, repairs, and extends campus irrigation lines and systems, piping, and sprinkler heads.
  • Performing services such as moving and transporting technical and medical equipment, furniture, and other large medical center equipment, pick up and disposal of debris and trash.
  • Moving and transporting duties may include delivery to or pickup from VA locations up to 250 miles distant.
  • Operating trucks up to 2 1/2 tons with dump box for hauling materials and equipment.
  • Subject to emergency callback 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for grounds snow and ice removal.

Work Schedule: Full-Time Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Employee must be able to perform labor such as digging or shoveling for extended periods of Time: be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds and to operate machinery controls with required arm and leg coordination. Employee must work in all outside conditions incurred such as heat, cold, snow, dust, and rain. Employee will also be required to work under conditions found in demolition such as dust, confined spaces and in debris areas. Employee will be subject to working around operating machinery and in areas where cuts, bruises, abrasions, and strains may occur.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. Additional information

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
