Help
  • Oversees the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Prevention programs.
  • Serves as the principal advisor to the Alcohol and Drug Control Officer (ADCO) on matters related to substance use and abuse and its effects on readiness.
  • Plans and develops local policies, procedures, and reporting requirements/systems to effectively accomplish goals.
  • Reviews charts and statistics for the ASAP drug testing program.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for ASAP Prevention Branch Chief:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

AND

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: 1) Experience developing, implementing, or coordinating a substance abuse prevention, risk reduction, or suicide prevention program; 2) Experience promoting program awareness; and 3) Experience conducting briefings to senior officials regarding substance abuse programs.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
