Duties

Help

  • Provides expert advice and guidance on government programs and policies of interest to the public and Congress, particularly in juvenile delinquency prevention and child protection.
  • Prepares reports and written analyses of OJJDP policies and positions on complex or challenging matters.
  • Plans, designs and oversees OJJDP-wide policies, programs and procedures governing information dissemination functions for significant and controversial decisions.
  • Serves as an authoritative expert in analyzing legislation and developing standards, regulations, and policies impacting DOJ- and OJP-wide programs.
  • Coordinates and integrates various juvenile justice and child protection issues with policy considerations to ensure a balanced approach that aligns with OJP's mission and needs.
  • Applies innovative methods and approaches to conceive, plan, and evaluate OJJDP-wide policies, programs, campaigns, projects, and studies. Defines project focus, feasibility, timing, technical approach, and management structure. Monitors activities and evaluates outcomes. Recommends and formulates OJJDP positions on complex policy issues and challenges.
  • Prepares correspondence to external officials and other organizations.
  • Develops informational content aimed at informing, educating, and persuading the public, specialized groups, agency heads, members of Congress, state executives, private sector leaders, and media representatives about the value of OJJDP's work. Communicates with nationally and internationally recognized groups and individuals to explain, defend, or present OJP's stance on key programs.
  • Plans and develops strategies to maximize outreach project opportunities, enhancing OJJDP's visibility and engagement with key constituencies, including Congress and juvenile justice interest groups. Expands OJJDP's outreach to other constituencies, such as the corporate sector, non-profit organizations, other federal agencies, local and state governments, and community groups.
  • Engages with, advises, and collaborates with high-ranking officials, including agency heads, senior congressional staff, state government executives, legislative leaders, and private sector executives.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Led or managed government programs and policies related to juvenile justice and delinquency prevention programs.
  • Developed standards, regulations, or policies that impact agency wide programs relating to juvenile justice.
  • Planned and developed strategies for maximizing outreach and impact of potential project opportunities to include Congress and juvenile justice interest groups and federal interagency coordination.

  • This position has a duty station of Washington, D.C. The selectee will be required to physically report to the OJP office building at least four (4) days per bi-weekly pay period and may incorporate leave and official travel plans into this reporting requirement. The office director or supervisor may request the selectee's presence in the office more frequently, as determined by the needs of the office. The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
