Duties

Help
  • The position maintains records and materials for Wild Horse and Burro adoption events in WY and Ne. Processes applications for adoption. Provides public outreach and education on Wild Horse and Burro program and adoption.
  • Assists wrangler and facility manager in daily adoption preparation or care of wild horses and burros. Assists facility manager with maintaining animal health records.
  • Responsible for data entry into WHBPS to maintain adoption and management records. Responsible for creation and entry of animal preparation records.

FOR GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:

  • Ability to organize and maintain files and records.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating and managing projects.
  • Ability to learn about the laws, regulations and policies in the Wild Horse and Burro program.
  • Knowledge of the care and handling of wild horses and burros, including feeding, controlling, restraint and health.
  • Ability to use computer software systems.
  • Ability to communicate with other members of government agencies and the public.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: This work will require moderate physical activity exposed to adverse weather conditions with some lifting and movement of supplies up to 50 pounds. This work will involve daily operation of caring for animals, as well as physical ability to walk across uneven terrain and open large gates. On occasion, this work will require operation of equipment (trailers, corrals, chutes) used in handling wild horses.

Work Environment: The job includes office and field work. The office work may require meeting deadlines in a short time frame and travel for meetings adoptions and training. The field work is performed at Wheatland or Elm Creek WH&B Facility and outside adoption settings and will include daily exposure to inclement weather.
