Duties

Help
  • Pass on instructions received from supervisor to other workers and start work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
  • Utilize equipment, tools and machinery that incorporate electrical and mechanical principles of operation to accomplish the desired goal.
  • Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, and modify subassemblies of various electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair operational malfunctions in complex electronic equipment and systems.
  • Determine approaches, methods, and course of action necessary to complete assigned duties.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40lbs in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 60% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Obtain and maintain a Government issued travel credit card.
  • Required to utilize, wear, and maintain a safety harness when climbing and suspending from heights.
  • This position requires shift work and overtime to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Strategic Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Installation Mechanic Leader~ I have the ability to Lead or Supervise the common tasks performed by Strategic Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Installation Mechanic Leader to include: 1) Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that arise; 2) Ensuring needed tools and materials are available; 3) Working along with others setting the pace; 4) Demonstrating proper work methods and techniques related to the overhaul and repair of electronic components and related devices.

Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Efforts: Frequently lifts and handles equipment or test sets up to 40 pounds. Regular walking to various work sites to start or check on work status. Occasional bending and crouching in equipment shelters and climbing steps or ladders to reach installed equipment.

May incur frequent and repetitious body movements such as sitting, kneeling, bending, climbing, standing, crawling, stooping, lifting and working overhead. Exerts additional effort in operating equipment controls, making more frequent arm and leg movements. Vibration of the forklift trucks requires greater physical endurance to withstand the strain.

Required to work in cramped and strained positions inside and outside vans, shelters, and on work-stands and lifting device. Required to climb and be suspended from heights utilizing a body harness. May be required to wear protective equipment such as fall protection, safety glasses, ear-plugs, safety shoes etc. Is required to comply with all applicable safety directives.

Working Conditions: Normally works in a equipment repair shop at bench test sites; occasionally at on-site indoor or outdoor locations in various weather conditions. Chance of electrical burns or shock from RF energy, cuts from use of hand tools, and strains from lifting equipment.

Subject to the usual hazards associated with the electronics trade and work environment such as electrical shock; abrasions; burns; bruises; cuts; exposure to fumes, oils, greases, varying noise levels; and R.F. radiation. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions when working outside. The employee may be exposed to dust and dirt. May be required to wear protective equipment such as fall protection for working at heights, respirators, safety glasses, ear-plugs, safety shoes etc. Required to comply with all applicable safety directives. Travels as required to perform assigned duties.
