Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position as an Information Technology Specialist, you will:

  • Provide IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving, recurring software/hardware problems.
  • Provides user training and assistance on variety of routine applications.
  • Provides a wide variety of technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities to effectively deliver legal training using electronic and/or telecommunications media.
  • Installs, configures, upgrades and troubleshoots commonly used hardware and software systems within the organization.
  • Assists in the configuration, installation , and maintenance of networked systems using knowledge of network standards and protocols, and knowledge of the capabilities and applications of network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware.
  • Distributes and installs new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current versions of supported software.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-7: Experiencemust be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.
AND
You must have at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Applying Information Technology concepts, methods, standards, and practices as they relate to data and software management, i.e. knowledge of database creation and utilization, installing and configuring software and hardware; and
  • Resolves routine software/hardware issues.
OR
Education: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
- 1 full year of graduate level education; OR
Superior academic achievement: Superior academic achievement is based on 1) class standing: upper third of graduating class; 2) grade-point average (G.P.A.): 3.0 out of 4.0 overall or 3.5 out of 4.0 in major; or 3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.(In order to be creditable, education must be related to the position being filled with a major study of computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.)Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-9: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.
AND

You must have at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Applying pertinent techniques to assist with projects led by a Project Manager such as imaging, managing, and deploying customer workstations and peripherals;
  • Performing initial diagnosis for troubleshooting user account problems and provide workstation user network account support;
  • Analyze approaches and leveraging suggestions to assist with Installation, troubleshooting and updating certified Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and customized software.
OR
Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-11: Experiencemust be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.
AND
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Applying Information Technology concepts, methods, standards,
  • Performing information Technology (IT) work that involves experience demonstrating developing, delivering, and supporting IT systems and services;
  • Providing/suggesting alternative approaches to IT issues, problems and concern; and
  • Providing various information technology customer services and support.
OR
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
