About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Lead Emergency Medical Technician in the Department of Emergency Medicine. This position is located in Fort Eisenhower, Georgia.

Duties

Help
  • Directs the work of contract and civilian Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) (GS-06) and Paramedics (GS-07) and provides a wide range of emergency medical services and procedures.
  • Sets priorities, dispatches emergency and rescue crews, initiating calls to law enforcement, fire suppression and coroners, and other matters pertaining to the shift operation of the ambulance service.
  • Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening.
  • Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Position requires that you possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position will require normal shift work with 8-hour shifts 7 days a week.
  • This position requires the selectee to wear uniform.
  • This position is inclement weather essential and may require the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes which includes leading and/or directing the work of others; responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs; initiating intravenous (IV) therapy; and operating and maintaining emergency vehicles. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Licensure/Certification: This position requires a state issued Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification or certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P).
