Duties

Help
  • Perform installation, repair and maintenance on a variety of piping systems and related apparatuses and equipment (i.e. Steam, high or low pressure hot water distribution and gas systems.
  • Maintain low pressure steam and hot water boilers and associated components.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on commercial and industrial facility systems that provide heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
  • Locate and diagnose defects in steam and condensate piping systems and perform repairs.
  • Accurately interpret blueprints, diagrams, drawings, specifications and site conditions.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and annual physical.
  • Position requires the lifting of 50 lbs or more.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Class/Grade IV Boiler Fireman license, or equivalent, within 1 year and 6 months from start of employment.
  • May be required to use/wearing of prescribed respirator and other protective equipment and clothing, including face shield and respirator with tight-fitted face piece. Must be fit tested to wear respirator protective equipment.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Pipefitter tasks, such as in cutting, bending, assembling, and installing pipe, fittings, and fixtures in constructing and repairing low-pressure piping systems. In addition, Have the ability to plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and
    working where equipment is in hard-to-reach places. There is considerable overhead work that is performed from extension ladders,
    staging, forklifts, and industrial monkeys. Work heights may exceed 40 feet. Frequently lifts and carries Items weighing up to 50 pounds
    and occasionally heavier, with assistance (personal or lifting device) provided as needed for items over 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in dirty, dusty, and greasy conditions. Exposed to the possibility of burns
    from high temperature hot water and steam and heat exhaustion when working in enclosed spaces. Exposed to possibility of strains,
    cuts, scrapes and bruises from working around heavy equipment and tools. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls off ladders
    and platforms. Subject to possibility of electric shock from electrical equipment. Exposed to possibility of explosion from combustible
    gases. Presence of asbestos, infrared and ultraviolet rays, smoke, etc., requires wearing/use of protective clothing/equipment.
