Duties

Help

Serves as the Columbia-Pacific Northwest region's Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) and Environmental Management System (EMS) Coordinator. Responsible for:

  • Leading environmental compliance audits of the region's lands and facilities, including power plants, per the Department of Interior's 515 DM 2 and the Reclamation Manual's ENV 15-03.
  • Writing or reviewing All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI) for real property acquisitions.
  • Conducting inspections and evaluations of inadvertent hazardous material discoveries or spill sites.
  • Further developing and leading the region's Environmental Management Systems (EMS) program per Executive Order 13834 and the Reclamation Manual's ENV 05-01.
  • Assessing environmental training needs for staff, preparing appropriate training materials, and conducting training/providing guidance as needed.
  • Applying environmental laws, regulations, executive orders, and/or environmental policies relating to hazardous materials and contributing to the development of Bureau-wide policies, manuals, and Directives and Standards.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

To qualify at the GS-12, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in federal service having demonstrated experience as experience in the following: Specialized experience at this level is defined as 1) performing environmental compliance audits; 2) writing or reviewing All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI) for real property acquisitions; and 3) interpreting and providing guidance on policies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 09/11/2024.
