Duties

Help
  • Participates in or leads the prioritization and direction of global and/or theater-specific DODIN Cyber Operations (DCO) response actions to cybersecurity events.
  • Supports crisis action planning by providing situational information environment awareness with a primary focus on contingency operations.
  • Monitors performance of global networks and systems.
  • Track and document cyber defense incidents from initial detection through final resolution.
  • Develops priorities and objectives to ensure timely resolution of events/incidents/problems and provides timely, accurate, and relevant situational awareness to local leadership and impacted customers.
  • Battle Captain for the Joint Force Headquarters - Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ DODIN) Operations Center (JDOC) in the daily management of a 24/7/365 operations center.
  • Focused on the Command and Control (C2), synchronization and de-confliction of DODIN Operations.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to classified information and eligibility to have the appropriate security clearance as a condition of employment. May be subject to initial and random drug testing for this position, if applicable.
  • In accordance with DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subjected to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months.
  • Completing Residential Qualification requirements in 12 months and any future Cybersecurity Workforce qualification/credentialing requirements as defined by the DoD 8140 policy series for the position's required CYBER Work Role(s).
  • The incumbent may temporarily perform cyberspace workforce position duties while obtaining qualification requirements under the direct observation/supervision unless the qualification requirement is waived by an OSD or DoD Component head.
  • If the qualifications are not met or observation is not feasible, then the individual must be reassigned to other duties consistent with applicable law.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. The nature of the position’s duties and the organization’s operational mission requires the incumbent to physically report to their duty station in certain situations where non-essential employees are excused.
  • As part of the Mission Essential designation, the incumbent may be placed in a 24/7 standby or recall status and be required to carry a mobile phone or other similar device to be directly recalled to duty from a recall roster.
  • The incumbent may also be required to physically report to an alternate duty station during the activation of a Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements:

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.


Qualifying Experience:
To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience in Information Systems Network Security including Analyzing network alerts from various sources within the enterprise and determine possible causes of such alerts, Coordinating incident response functions, Monitoring external data sources (e.g., cyber defense vendor sites, Computer Emergency Response Teams, Security Focus) to maintain currency of cyber defense threat condition and determine which security issues may have an impact on the enterprise, AND Performing cyber defense trend analysis and reporting.

  • This position is in the Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It is being recruited under 10 U.S.C. 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system.
  • If you are a current Federal Career/Career-Conditional employee, you will be placed on an Excepted appointment.
  • This appointment does not confer eligibility to be non-competitively converted to an appointment in the competitive service.
  • A three-year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in the excepted or competitive service.
  • Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination
  • Individuals tentatively selected for drug testing designated positions at the Defense Information Systems Agency will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.
