  • Serves as a trainee in the field of operations research analysis.
  • Uses standard methods and techniques to perform such duties as gathering, researching, and evaluating cost analysis data; preparing flow charts; performing engineering calculations and compiling statistical data.
  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of higher-grade analysis and which are designed to provide operations research experience and training pertinent to cost analysis of aviation and missile systems.
  • Conduct statistical tests, prepare graphical presentations of analytical results and prepare reports.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting cost analysis functions inclusive of cost modeling, development of cost estimating methodologies and their applications; and 2) Developing cost estimates and preparing reports.

This typically includes work performed at the next lower grade/level NH-01 (GS-04) position in the federal service.


In addition to the general experience requirement above, you must also meet the following education requirement:

BasicRequirement for Operations Research Analyst: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcript.)

This is an Accelerated Compensation Developmental Position (ACDP). In the development period, the incumbent receives tailored instructions, guidance, training, and supervision designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance at the full performance level. Supervision becomes progressively less detailed as incumbent gains more experience. Incumbent may be eligible for non-competitive ACDP basic pay increases within a six month period, within the target broadband level or non-competitive promotion to the higher broadband level upon meeting the following requirements: (1) Incumbent completes all required training and conditions of employment; 2) successfully met the benchmark and objective requirements for developmental activities, accomplishment of higher level work, and contribution expectations; and 3) results as well as quality of performance determined by the supervisor. Consequently, ACDP basic pay increase or non-competitive promotion to the higher broadband level is not guaranteed.

Position may be filled as a Term appointment NTE 2 years. Employees hired under the modified term appointment may be eligible for conversion to career-conditional appointments or career appointments. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as the following requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service and employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointments of at least full successful or equivalent.

  • This is a pay banded position. The NH-02 encompasses grades 5-11 on the General Schedule. The NH-03 encompasses grades 12 and 13 on the General Schedule.
