Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying basic practices and techniques of electrical and mechanical engineering as they relate to the design and operation of electrical and mechanical utility distribution systems; 2) Using computer assisted engineering design and drafting systems in relationship to and interfaces with utilities control systems and utilities metering; 3) Using engineering test equipment and instrumentation to enable field analysis of utilities system problems and evaluation of the effectiveness of corrective actions taken; and 4) Applying existing engineering theories and new developments to current problems and to employ long-term planning on projects of broad scope and complexity. Physical Demands: No particular unusual physical demands are required. The ability to inspect utilities systems and review jobs in progress is a frequent necessity. Field site visits require standing, stooping, bending, and climbing ladders up to 20 feet and into manholes, vaults, and/or pits. There may be a need to lift or move equipment, manhole covers, or steel sheets weighing from 50-400 pounds (using a steel rod to assist). The incumbent may be exposed to all weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, rodents, reptiles, excessive noise, and heat.
Work Environment: Generally, work will be performed in an office. However, field trips are required to personally form an engineering opinion prior to development of engineering and planning decisions. Appropriate safety equipment is used. Must be able to obtain a California driver's license.
