Duties

Help
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and install commercial heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Repair, maintain and install electrical wiring systems and components.
  • Install, repair and maintain commercial plumbing systems.
  • Interpret instructions to complete maintenance work assignments.
  • Work in a team atmosphere with other mechanics and engineers to ensure all mechanical systems are functioning properly.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
  • This position has a requirement for heavy lifting 45 or more.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Repair refrigeration systems such as walk-in coolers, and freezers. Repair commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment. Repair commercial plumbing such as hot and cold-water piping and hot water circulating systems. Repair electrical wiring and their components for switch gears and motor control centers. Perform minor repairs to floors, walls, ceilings, windows, and doors. Perform touch-up painting. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The work requires working in close and cramped positions, lifting, climbing, stooping, crawling, and bending.
  • Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside as required. Subject to electric shock, burns from steam and hot water pipe, bruises when working between floor and ceiling or other close places. The work involves exposure to contagious disease wards, unpleasant odors, etc. Employee will use hand tools of several trades, power tools, shop tools, and is responsible for safe and proper use of tools and equipment. Employee must observe safety rules and regulations to prevent injury and accidents. Subject to high and low temperature and extreme noise situations. Works in confined and permit-required spaces. Works directly with caustic solutions, fibrous materials (some containing fiberglass), raw sewage, and occasionally assists in high-voltage repairs and maintenance.
