Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of trades and crafts involving maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities. Trade practices associated with carpentry, painting, and laboring work. Carry, lift, and hold material. Use ladders and scaffolding. Nails boards.
  • Replaces faucet washers, light bulbs and fuses. Un-stops sinks and toilets. Hangs electrical fixtures, repairs screens, storm sashes and repairs to furniture. Moving furniture or refinishing the appearance. Maintenance and repair of grounds.
  • Patch and paint walls, apply sealing compounds and primers, finish rough edges, smooth with file, emery cloth and sandpaper. Cuts grass, plants, trims hedges, trees and shrubbery. Dumps trash, waters plants, sweeps walkways, and shovel snow.
  • If required to operate a motor vehicle (1/2 Ton to 1 Ton), transport materials and personnel to and from worksite, prepares trip tickets, performs driver's daily maintenance and reports repairs needed to supervisor. Replace window glass.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must have working knowledge of wood working techniques and basic shop mathematics.
  • Must be skilled in use and operation of common hand and power tools and measuring devices of the carpentry and painting trades to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Must have a knowledge of standard surface operation and coating methods and techniques.
  • Must have ability to read and follow basic blueprints and sketches.
  • If assigned to operate a motor vehicle, must have skills and knowledge to accomplish safe operation of vehicles operated.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to carry equipment, tools, or supplies weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Work is performed inside and outside of buildings and is dusty, dirty, and greasy. When outside, exposed to extreme hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
  • Possibility of electrical shock, cuts, burns, and bruises. Wears safety equipment incidental to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience in performing duties as described.
2. Ability to follow oral and written instructions involving those duties.
3. If incumbent is required to operate a vehicle, must have a valid driver's license.

  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
