Duties

Help

The tour of duty will range from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Hours may change due to Operating Needs of Management

This position is emergency essential.  Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

The individual selected for this position will:

Motor Vehicle Operating and Maintenance:

  • The primary driving duties relate to the 2002 Freightliner, Model FL 70, Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) 33,000 lbs. with air brakes (CDL Required) to transport debris, scrap metal, pallets and other items to the Metal Recycling location or Landfills for up to 20 or 30 hours per week at various times. Many times the weight is excessive and requires slower driving than the posted speed limit. Other vehicles being driven include an E150 Ford Van, a Transit 150, a Chevy Truck 3500, a Ford F-250, a Ford Van e-150 and a Polaris Ranger TM.
  • The work require picking up and delivering parts, materials and supplies from various House office Buildings, ensuring that cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured prior to transport.
  • Responsible for driving employees to the Capitol Complex and other locations in accordance with the policies and directions of the Superintendent.
  • During essential emergency closures, uses a snow blower to assist with snow removal and a 1500 psi power washer to clean walkways.  Also operate a Fork Lift (Hyster 35) to load trucks.
  • Performs basic operator maintenance on vehicles such as monitoring of fluid levels, checking tires, battery and brakes; replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections; washing and cleaning of interior and exterior of vehicles; and performing minor repairs.

Laborer Duties:

  • Performs laborer duties when driving duties have been completed.  Loads and unloads heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks; moves heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck or dolly.  Checks accuracy of shipments against packing slips.
  • Delivers supplies to Members' Offices.  Assists shop offices' trades personnel by performing duties such as cleaning work areas at the end of the day; transporting tools and materials from shop areas or storage areas to job sites; and other similar work.
  • Responsible for following all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.  Utilizes knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA and Office of Compliance safety rules and regulations.   Must ensure the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position.

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Must possess a valid, unexpired Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsements.
  • Must current possess a good driving record.  Possession of a good driving record is included in the suitability process.  Maintenance thereof is a condition of continued employment.  Failure to maintain a good driving record will result in termination.  (NOTE.  The selected candidate will be required to provide a "certified" copy of their driving record at the time of notification of selection).
  • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. or more without assistance.
