Help

As a Facilities Operations Specialist within the Arizona Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Provide oversight and coordination of facilities management for the Flagstaff Science Campus.
  • Perform related Custodial Property Officer (CPO) Property Clerk duties by maintaining inventories, responding to data calls, and submitting annual reports.
  • Assist with the movement of office furniture and equipment, sensitive or non-sensitive scientific equipment and computers for personnel.
  • Perform or oversee preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on a variety of systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building automated controls, security monitoring, and fire suppression systems.
  • Ensure compliance regarding current operating licenses, state inspections, and permits for facilities systems.
  • Perform and/or schedule system tests and maintenance on fire controls, security monitoring devices, and video surveillance systems to ensure that all systems remain fully functional.
  • Operate a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.
Physical Demands
The position requires the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. The position requires physical exertion such as walking long distances, bending, stooping, standing for extended periods of time, and working in cramped positions. Climbs and works from ladders. The position requires visual acuity and dexterity.

Work Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather. Work may be performed in laboratories, offices, roof tops, and warehouses. Work may involve operating government vehicles and forklifts, boat trailer maintenance, trailered boat coordination, and automated lifts within the warehouse. Work may take place in hot, dusty, dirty, cold, or wet environments. May be exposed to fumes, grease, lacquers, paints, solvents, acids or other chemical contaminants. Work may be noisy and generally uncomfortable at times. Work may take place around high voltage, dangerous equipment and tools. Personal protective equipment is sometimes necessary and required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level:

Possess 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples include: Experience that provided a knowledge of the practices and procedures related to property management, maintenance, materials requirements, and building operation and repair. This experience may have been gained in work such as budget or report preparation, maintenance of property and financial records, or trades or crafts work requiring technical knowledge or judgment.

**OR Possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a major study field such as engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration.

**OR Possess a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
