Summary

The National Archives and Records Administration is seeking a Director of Public Engagement to lead the Office of Public Engagement within the Office of the Presidential Libraries (P) of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The incumbent is responsible for envisioning, facilitating, managing and executing national exhibition, public programming, education and communications initiatives and coordinated public-facing projects for the Presidential Library system.

Duties

Help

As a Director of Public Engagement, you will:

  • Work in coordination with public engagement professionals across the Presidential Libraries and Museums to develop and implement a strategic, coordinated approach to elevate exhibitions, education, public programs, and visitor services.
  • Serve as a representative of Presidential Libraries in the larger museum and education community and facilitate NARA and the Presidential Libraries' cooperative efforts with these institutions.
  • Manage, set objectives for, and/or participate in a wide-ranging portfolio of public engagement projects and initiatives directly serving the mission of the agency and the strategic objectives of the Office of Presidential Libraries.
  • Lead efforts to assess the success of Library public engagement programs. Utilize feedback, data, and findings to identify and address shortcomings and common issues that impede achievement of greater agency goals.
  • Work with officials and/or representatives of Library units to elevate and coordinate external communications for the Presidential Libraries, including websites, social media, press relations and other approaches.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-15 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-14 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience:

- Managing a public engagement program at a large museum, cultural or historical institution, or Presidential Library including exhibitions, public programming, and education; AND

- Overseeing audience testing and research from exhibitions, education or public programs; AND

- Preparing presentation materials for executives and organizational leadership and presenting materials to internal and external stakeholders/giving presentations regarding museum curation, exhibit design, public programming, education and/or communications; AND

- Experience serving as a project manager responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and implementing complex projects, including budget requests; AND

- Overseeing strategic external communications for a museum, library, historical institution or Presidential Library.
