Major Duties of the Position:
USAFA seeks a dynamic, articulate, and energetic leader to serve as the next Associate Dean and Library Director of the McDermott Library. The McDermott Library plays an integral role in sustaining the teaching mission of the institution as well as a robust faculty/student research program. The Director will lead and manage a staff of 14 professionals and 20 technicians that serves approximately 4,000 cadets, 530 faculty, staff, and authorized researchers by providing an environment conducive to study, research, and collaboration in which stewardship of library materials meets the most exacting of national standards and legal requirements. The library operates on a 12-month calendar with 80 hours per week during the academic year; 50 hours per week during summer and holidays. The Director is responsible for the overall administrative, operational, and fiscal leadership of the library, including oversight for the execution of an approximately $4.8M budget and the operation of a 140K square foot library facility. The McDermott Library is housed on 4 floors, contains over 400,000 print monographs, access to more than 333 databases and over 1 million e-books. The distinctive Academy Archives and Special Collections Branch of the Library include a wide variety of primary-source materials on the history and heritage of flight, the Academy, and the Air Force.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree from an ALA accredited program in library and/or information science. Minimum of 10 years' experience with demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility and proven successful supervision, management, and leadership of academic library personnel

ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES:
PhD, EdD, and/or MBA strongly preferred

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Library Science/Masters in Library and Information Science

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
