Summary

As a Supervisory Accountant, you will assist the Division Director, and subordinate supervisors, in the accomplishment of short and long-range planning and the execution of actions, which have far-reaching impact on the Division regionally and nationally.

Location of position: General Services Administration, Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). Location is negotiable upon selection.

This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home). Positions include routine telework and remote work arrangements that are geographically specific to: Denver, CO; Ft. Worth, TX; Kansas City, MO; Philadelphia, PA; and Washington, DC. The duty station will be determined upon selection and will be located within the geographic area described.

As a Supervisory Accountant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Develops and assesses information from a variety of sources, designs researched approaches and obtains information in order to prepare analysis and responses relating to a variety of topics including divisional accounting and financial program operations and activities and their impacts.
  • Recommends solutions for problems associated with new financial legislation or policy. Evaluate data in financial reports to determine trends in meeting the accomplishment of measurable goals. Create and implement financial program and process remedies involving highly complex issues that involved competing interests and resulted in precedent-setting decisions.
  • Provide professional and technical advice and guidance to senior officials, clients organizations and vendors. Provide advice and guidance to accountants on the interpretation of accounting systems and issues and the implementation of procedures and programs.
  • Set and adjust short-term priorities and schedules and make decisions on work problems of subordinate supervisors. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, which are clearly communicated.
  • Advises and guides accountants in the interpretation of accounting systems and issues and in the implementation of procedures and programs. Resolves questions as to the methods of treating unusual accounting transactions, the implementation of new accounting systems and procedures and solutions for problems associated with new legislation or policy.

  • Serve a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period, if required.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $124,113 per year. Locality will be determined based on duty location.

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  

To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service. 

Specialized experience is professional accounting experience that included the following: providing sound and authoritative technical guidance related to financial/accounting issues, programs and/or systems; assessing and participating in new system development and system enhancements to improve program effectiveness; and advising on the implementation of accounting procedures and programs.

This position has a positive education requirement: Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date of announcements to verify qualifications. If selected, an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.

Accountant Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:  You must have either A or B, or C:

  1. Degree in accounting 
  2. Degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law
  3. A combination of college level education and experience.

  • Ability to apply analytical and evaluative techniques in order to assess, evaluate, and develop recommendations related to accounting and financial programs, policies, processes, and system.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, interpret and evaluate complex financial and statistical reports for the solution of accounting problems and the projection of results based on the alternatives selected.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to provide advice, guidance, findings, and recommendations concerning various types of accounting and financial matters to various levels of personnel.
  • Ability to supervise subordinates, manage work assignments and analyze/evaluate job performance.
  • Knowledge of a number of accounting systems and related appropriation programs to integrate improvements to accounting system capabilities and to solve problems in overall program management and reporting requirements.
