The Senior Researcher Advanced Materials Technologies:

  • Leads strategic planning for new technical capability in emerging fields of materials research and technology and provides recommendations on strategic investments and technology forecasting to Agency and Center leadership in Aeronautics and Space Exploration.
  • Conducts systematic, intensive research to further knowledge in multifunctional, advanced materials and composites that have general applicability for use by others.
  • Represents Langley on Agency technical teams/committees/panels responsible for problem solving.
  • Demonstrated recognition of technical excellence through current peer-reviewed publications.
  • Represents Langley on technical panels/committees; delivers expertise in planning and investigation teams; demonstrates technical leadership and innovation through principal role on funded projects and patents.
  • Leads technical consulting and maintaining global awareness of international competitive research and technology environment in advanced materials, and documented impact of technical contributions to materials technologies relevant to Agency missions.
  • Fosters and continually drives a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence, and innovation within and outside of the organization and NASA. Qualifications

Candidates must possess expert knowledge and at least 3 years of directly related specialized experience in the development of new high-performance/high-temperature resistant polymers and associated novel processing methods for advanced aerospace applications. At least 1 year of this experience must have been in planning and executing difficult programs of national significance or planning and executing specialized programs that show outstanding attainments in the field of research or consultation. At least 1 year of the directly related specialized experience must be at least equivalent to experience at the GS-15 level.

Education

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.
