Summary

These positions are located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Superintendent House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facilities Operations Division, Electrical Branch. The House Office Buildings seeks temporary electrical workers for the upcoming 119th Congressional Moves. Workers will begin November 2024 and terminate at the conclusion of the project. Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory.

Candidates selected for this position will fall under one of three shifts as follows:

  • Day (6:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.)
  • Evening (2:00 P.M. to 10:30 P.M.)
  • Night (10:00 P.M. to 6:30 A.M.), Sunday - Thursday

Major Duties:

Assists journey level electricians with assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. Strings wire through conduit pipes and drilling holes. Gradually progresses to more complex tasks and learns to diagnose and solve wiring problems.

Follows directions to perform inspection, installation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and replacement of electrical systems which includes lighting systems, power distribution systems (electrical panels), emergency systems (including exit lights and security lights), ballasts, switches, electrical receptacles, conduits, and cables involving voltages from 120 volts to 480 volts.

Under guidance and direction, tests electrical systems for continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, amp meters, and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety.

Receives training and guidance to repair or install equipment such as motors and circuit breakers.

Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, motors, or other components. Installs wall switches and electrical outlets. Replaces light ballasts and installs lighting fixtures.

Assists in diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Utilizes preventative measures such as oiling motors, bending conduit, and replacing old wiring.

Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments and repairs. Ensures compliance with electrical code.

Complies with all safety and health practices, OSHA regulations, and wears required protective equipment.

Please Note: This position is temporary, not to exceed 13 months. It is a position that is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.
