  • Makes layout and assembly drawings by using various drafting equipment to show complete development of the design, critical dimensions, and tooling material type, strength, and finish
  • Integrates and balances several projects which operate simultaneously and involve complete tool planning and tool and gauge design work for any type of industrial process.
  • Provides the lower grade personnel that are assigned to specific projects with technical assistance they may need and assures that the project is progressing and being accomplished in a satisfactory manner.
  • Designs plans and estimates the required tool and gauges for a large variety of metal, rubber, plastic, and leather products involving molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures necessary for such industrial operations
  • Coordinates and develops design approaches and preliminary plans for work necessitating such special considerations as new equipment involved.
  • Surveys shop areas to determine most appropriate operation site with possible repositioning and modification of existing industrial equipment required, and required handling problems.

GS-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing various technical engineering, scanning, modeling; analyzing tasks used in the design, development, process planning, and production of 3D printed components and other items; provide design coordination for engineers and technical staff through the use of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) models; designs shape, size structures and mechanical aspects of assigned items and identifies support structure options in terms of feasibility for 3D printing; and prepares detailed engineering layouts and drawings in support of prototype manufacture and/or proposed revision to existing technical data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-10).

GS-10: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting in performing various technical engineering, scanning, modeling; analyzing tasks used in the design, development, and production of 3D printed components and other items; and provide design coordination for engineers and technical staff through the use of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) models. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-09).

OR

Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in an appropriate field of engineering, or mechanical engineering technology.
