Duties

Help

The detailee will serve as an expert senior level Writer-Editor for the Public Engagement Division of the Office of Citizenship, Partnership, and Engagement in support of the development and implementation of USCIS outreach and engagement strategies. The Writer-Editor will lead and coordinate the formal review of all agency policy and reports for the Public Engagement Division.

- Act as the central processing point of contact for the strategic review and management of executive correspondence, ensuring timely, accurate, and responsive communication between internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with component heads and direct the correspondence process by developing, evaluating, and validating official taskings.
- Coordinate and lead collaboration meetings, when needed, with subject matter experts within program offices and directorates to coordinate responses for any complicated and sensitive correspondence.
- Perform research to develop authoritative information.
- Write and edit complex and controversial communications.
- Provide written and oral reports with conclusions, alternatives, and recommendations on policies, projects, or studies.
- Review official documents for leadership's signature, ensuring the proper integration of the appropriate content, clarity, themes, and messages into all documents for internal and external distribution.
- Exercise a high degree of discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential communications and policy-level decision materials.

Qualifications required:

  1. Expert knowledge of English grammar for business communications.
  2. Interpersonal and administrative skills to organize and coordinate thorough, systematic, and professional efforts to meet the needs and requirements of the program.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  4. Skilled in developing authoritative information on programs and policies.
  5. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the protection and release of information to the public.

If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:

  1. Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  2. Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
