Direct, and manage the day-to-day operations of the Branch which includes managing request for vital statistics restricted use data files, the National Death Index (NDI) program, the CDC Collaborating Office for Medical Examiners and Coroners (COMEC), and Global Civil Registration and Vital Statistics team.
Provide leadership and direction in the development of long-range goals and objectives
Maintain continuous crucial review of all policy and project objectives of the Branch.
Provide expert advice to the Division of Vital Statistics (DVS) Director and senior staff, and National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and CDC senior management, on issues related to the release of data through the National Death Index (NDI) and vital statistics restricted use data files.
Serve as a liaison with other federal agencies, state agencies, international agencies, researchers, and other professional and scientific staff on Branch-related activities.
Provide technical assistance and consultation to state, national, and international programs and partners involved in mortality data collection.
Analyze and evaluate all legislation that could impact Branch-related programs.
Brief congressional members on issues related to the Branch.
Direct, coordinate, and oversee work of direct reports, and through subordinate supervisors.
Evaluate subordinate supervisors, serve as reviewing official, and ensure reasonable equity in the performance standards and ratings.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: managing, supervising, leading, or performing scientific work; providing consultation in the collection and dissemination of domestic and international vital statistics data, program planning, and managing multiple projects and programs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
