Duties

Help

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify at the GS-15 level:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 14 level in the Federal service OR one year of professional program management experience which required analytical ability, independent judgment, discretion, and substantial knowledge for managing the program, staff and resources of a Division. Experience and knowledge are required for planning, directing, and evaluating programs and activities, including exercising managerial authority and oversight over branches, staff, and contractors. Experience in supervision of subordinate staff to provide technical and administrative leadership using professional knowledge in the assessment of problems of critical importance to your organization. Experience in researching, planning, and implementing the use of personnel, fiscal, and contractual resources while minimizing risk to the successful completion for operations.

Additional information

If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once renovations are completed for your area, you will be notified when to return to the office. At that time, you will be expected to work from your duty station, and you may be eligible to telework, up to 8 days a pay period depending on your respective work schedule, with approval from your supervisor.
