Duties

Help
  • Responsible for post-processing and analyzing Global Position System data to validate real-time tidal changes.
  • Applies technical expertise and professional knowledge and skills in surveying and mapping to plan, design, research, develop, construct, evaluate, and modify mapping and data management systems and products.
  • Provides technical expertise, services, and assistance to support navigation knowledge management by solving unique or complicated problems through state-of-the-art computer equipment and technology.
  • Articulate and communicate to the Chief, Hydrographic Survey Section assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion.
  • Performs quality assurance of hydrographic field work as needed for all resident offices, as well as deliverables provided by Architect-Engineer (AE) contracts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Overnight travel required for work assignments, training, conferences, and rotational assignments approximately 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • This position is designated as emergency-essential (E-E). The incumbent must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority. Failure to remain in your position may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal service.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-09 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:

  1. Conducting hydrographic surveys using Hypack software; AND
  2. Performing Global Position System (GPS) surveys to establish vertical and horizontal control; AND
  3. Preparing survey data for project specifications and tabulations of quantities.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
  1. Processing complex hydrographic surveys using Hypack Software AND
  2. Analyzing GPS surveys to verify vertical and horizontal control; AND
  3. Evaluating survey data for project specifications and tabulations of quantities.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education
