If selected for the IT Specialist (SysAdmin) - General Systems Administration position, the duties of the position include:

  • Providing engineering-level network administration leadership and oversight in a 24x7 mission-critical environment supporting direct patient care applications.
  • Collaborating with project managers and stakeholders to analyze networking requirements and design solutions meeting performance and security requirements.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts to leadership and/or non-technical stakeholders.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to project-based and contract staff
  • Analyzing and resolving network performance, connectivity, and related issues.
  • Ensuring network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.) is maintained and supported throughout the lifecycle and ensure timely replacement in accordance with vendor end-of-life milestones
  • Evaluating and documenting expected impact network upgrades or changes will have on downstream system availability.
  • Performing configuration and management of Network Access Control (NAC) technologies such as Cisco Identify Services Engine (ISE).
  • Designing, implementing, and managing Cisco Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) / Firewall Management Center (FMC) firewall solutions.
  • Continually assessing risk of network service interruption.
  • Conducting periodic reviews of network border and application specific firewall rule sets
  • Performing patching and upgrades as required on a variety of Cisco networking devices.
  • Writing and updating system documentation and create/maintenance architectural diagrams.

If selected for the IT Specialist (SysAdmin) Unix Administrator - Unix Administration position, the duties of the position include:
  • Serving as Department of Clinical Research Informatics UNIX Administrator.
  • Monitoring datacenter cooling and power technologies to ensure system redundancy.
  • Coordinating with vendors to oversee maintenance schedules that enhance performance and longevity of datacenter components.
  • Performing visual audits and inspections of a datacenter to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Adhering to cleanliness standards throughout a datacenter to uphold operational integrity and safety.
  • Serving as a technical specialist and advisor to specialists and managers
  • Evaluating, planning, developing, implementing, and supporting hosting infrastructure technologies, especially in the hosting of enterprise-class systems and storage area networks (SANs).
  • Leading or participating in the investigation of new and improved server, storage, software, advanced file system and other hosting technologies and/or services.
  • Utilizing various diagnostic tools to monitor system performance, identify security risks, and detect vulnerabilities within the IT infrastructure.
  • Consulting with vendors' sales and field service personnel to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Communicating with software engineers and developers to discuss implementation of local software corrections and modifications.
  • Planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of UNIX hardware and software systems.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:

IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates that you possess each of the following four competencies:

Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;

4. Problem Solving: identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations,

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: serving as an advisor to specialists and managers in developing and implementing hosting infrastructure technologies; reviewing and evaluating hosted applications; security requirements; building and installing upgrades to the Windows operating system and related utilities; serving as a technical consultant to customers in support of application systems hosted on an organization's servers, diagnosing causes of complex critical systems administration problems, and devising innovative solutions for their resolution; analyzing server performance data and recommending changes/improvements as necessary.
